Wilhelminakade is a historic site which was a wharf for passenger ships bound for America and, during the 19th and 20th century, the pier became a symbol of emigration to the United States. Architects Van Dongen Koschuch have designed two apartment buildings within this historic area, which since 2000 has seen a period of rapid high-rise development.

The two towers are both 70 metres tall, and stand on a base of commercial spaces and four levels of above ground parking. The stories above have six apartments each, making a total of 220 homes. A green roof provides a scenic link between the two towers where communal facilities such as a clubhouse and a panoramic terrace brings the development together.

The requirements of the client were for the facade access solution to blend with the aesthetic design of the building, with the Building Maintenance Units hidden in parked position, and also meet their sustainability needs.

To meet these requirements, Manntech designed and supplied two very low profile BMUs. An added challenge was the very short delivery timescale. Manntech succeeded in completing the operational handover of the two BMUS within five months.
